I often work out of doors, although it’s very much a process - painting in the rain, watercolours melting,
sheltering in the machair on a glistening expansive beach on the isle of Islay, capturing a sense of the
immediate. There’s something fascinating about being there - in the present moment just witnessing
or watching what is happening – possibly a rainstorm, light appearing, the challenge to capture this in
paint / pastel. There is real enjoyment being outside with nature, where it’s often peaceful, beautiful
and unpredictable.
